The Importance Of Sleep For Mental Health

In today’s world, our lives are often fast-paced, but to restore our physical and mental health, we need to stop and make time to rest. In my practice, I specialize in helping people with mood disorders, such as depression and anxiety. In this video, I am discussing the importance of maintaining good mental health by getting rest and especially good sleep.

It is estimated that about 33% of adults and 68% of the average high school students in the United States do not get adequate sleep. We all know what it is like when we have a night of poor sleep – you are tired, have brain fog, and do not feel well. Can you imagine what it is like to have that compounded when a person is not sleeping well night after night?

Chronic sleep deprivation can affect your mental health in a couple of ways:

  • Memory issues – things you have learned or have done are not adequately stored in your memory banks

  • Mood disorders – anxiety, depression, and panic attacks

The problem with mood disorders and sleep deprivation is that when you do not sleep well, especially over time, it can lead to depression and anxiety. These types of mood disorders in time can contribute to worsening sleep patterns, creating a vicious cycle between the quality of sleep and mood. When this occurs, you need to break the cycle to feel better.

If you suffer from a mood disorder like depression and anxiety, you know the pain of what it is like to have this chronic condition. You may feel like you cannot function the way you would like, or you may have troubled relationships at work or with family and friends. Perhaps you have been under treatment and cannot seem to get to the point where you are satisfied with how things are going in your life. You are not alone, and the good news is there is hope for your future.

I have designed a program, especially for individuals like you, to help identify the frequently overlooked areas that may be contributing to your depression and anxiety. In this program, we look at your diet, how you sleep, the stressors in your life, and advanced lab work to determine the root cause of your symptoms. If you would like to learn more about this program, please schedule a free 15-minute call - https://bit.ly/FFMDiscovery. Let’s discuss your issues, and see if my program is right for you. Until then, I encourage you to take some time today for yourself. Relax, unplug, get outside, enjoy yourself, and get a good night’s sleep!
